This lesson includes all that you need to help year 1 children to find with half of objects, shapes or half of a collection (amount).
To find half of a group of objects, we need
to divide the group into two equal parts.
For example, to find half of 12 lollies, we need to split them into two
equal groups. Each group needs to
contain the same number of candies. The
groups are equal. Each group contain 6
lollies. So, half of twelve is six.
Similarly, to find half of 20 balloons, we
need to divide them into two equal parts.
Each group is now a half. There
are 20 balloons. We divided them into
two equal groups. Half of 20 is 10.
