What is fraction?

Fractions tell us how many parts of a whole we have.  Fractions are normally written with one number up and another number down with a slash in between.  The following picture shows how fraction is written

We use fractions in everyday life.

Example :- Mum bakes a pizza.  Here comes your brother.  Mum shares half of the pizza with your brother.  You have 1 part of the 2 parts of the whole pizza.  It will be represented as ½.

What is half?

A half is a whole split into two equal pieces.  A half can be written in many ways, including ½ (fraction), 50% (percentage) or 0.5 (decimal)
